The Impresario – by W.A. Mozart

Mozart’s The Impresario (Der Schauspieldirektor) is a comedic that parodies the vanity of singers. Frank, the impresario, auditions two actresses to be part of his new theatrical company. While both are hired, they argue over who will get the prime role and who will be paid the most. To illustrate their strengths, each sings a striking aria to back her claim. An agreement is reached when the tenor, Volgelsang, intervenes, offering each singer large salaries and star billing.
