A New Fangled Festival of Opera

May 23 – June 9, 2014

New Fangled Opera is dedicated to the creation of new operas and vocal works as well as the re-emergence and re-creation of traditional favorites. We are always interested in developing new professional connections in our field. If you sing or play an instrument and want to be part of our performances, please contact us.

What am I getting into?

Currently, our summer festival is a no-pay/no-fee arrangement.  You will get the chance to perform unique roles in new operas, work with talented directors and stage crews, and build connections to people in your field from all walks of life.

The specific pieces that we plan to perform are generally announced in the early Spring.  Works are chosen based on a combination of the forces we have available and the merit of the scores themselves.  Rehearsals take place in New Orleans, Louisiana over a period of a few weeks.  Music is expected to be learned when you arrive so that time can be spent putting the pieces together.

How do I apply?

Please send us links to three audio or video recordings (video preferred) that must include one contemporary aria (post-1930), one english aria, and one aria of choice (english and contemporary may be in the same recording. Also include your headshot, resume, and a bio of max 300 words. There is a $5 application fee that can be made via the Donation page on our website. The deadline for submission is March 1st, 2014. I’m interested in directing or other “behind the scenes” tasks.

Great!  We look forward to seeing what you can offer New Fangled Opera and encourage you to apply as well.  Send us your resume.  Also include a video of a production you played a part in.  Let us know what part you played and how it is seen in the video.  For directors, if you can provide a video of a rehearsal where we can see you working, this is preferred.
